from Afghan Soviet War 1979-89 - $48 | Afghan War Rug commemorates the Afghan Soviet War of 1979-89, mat size, 1'x1' Illustration is a direct scan of a detail on the rug. Pictured is a Russian AK-47 (Kalashnikov) automatic assault rifle, used in Afghanistan both by the Soviet Army and the Afghan Mujihadeen. The section of border shown at the top, in fact runs all around the rug. This is an oriental rug woven in Northern Pakistan by an Afghan refugee. |
1/10. Pakistan Travel Brochure | Pakistan, "Peshawar", travel brochure issued by the Director of Tourism, Government of Pakistan, 1963. 15"x25", 12 panels printed on both sides. Fascinating illustrations and text about the area's warlike history and rich crafts tradition. The city lies hard by the Afghanistan border and the Khyber Pass. Oddly, the now infamous Pathan (Pashtun) tribal weapons factories of the Kohat Pass area, just south of the city, are cited as a tourist attraction. "...turn out hand made weapons -- pistols, revolvers, rifles, and even tommy-guns by primitive methods...and are greatly treasured as souvenirs by tourists." Try bringing your souvenir on your flight home. |
